Getting your real estate agent license in the UAE usually follows a clear path. While small steps might be different in each emirate, here’s a common way:
Step 1: Obtain a UAE Residency Visa
If you're not a UAE citizen, you must first get a valid UAE residence visa. Without this, you cannot register for training or apply for the license. This is usually sponsored by an employer, business setup, or family member.
Step 2: Enroll in the Real Estate Training Course
Register for the mandatory Certified Real Estate Broker Training from an approved center, like the Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI). This 4–5 day course covers UAE property laws, ethics, and sales practices. Other emirates may have different training or certification requirements.
Step 3: Pass the RERA Broker Exam
Once your training is complete, you must appear for the RERA exam (or similar authority exam in other emirates). You must score at least 75% to pass in most cases. This exam evaluates your knowledge of real estate rules, regulations, and ethics.
Step 4: Obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct
Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate (also called a Certificate of Good Conduct) from the Dubai Police or the respective emirate police department. This document proves you have no criminal record and are eligible for licensing.
Step 5: Gather All Required Documents
You will need the following documents for your application:
- Passport copy
- Emirates ID copy
- UAE residence visa copy
- Passport-sized photo
- RERA exam certificate
- Certificate of Good Conduct
- Training course certificate
Step 6: Submit Your Application Online
Your real estate company or brokerage usually helps you submit the license application through official systems like:
- Trakheesi in Dubai (under the Dubai Land Department)
- TAMM portal or DMT system in Abu Dhabi
- Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department (SRERD) for Sharjah
Step 7: Pay the Licensing Fees
Pay the necessary government fees. These may include:
- RERA application fee
- Training and exam charges
- Administrative costs
The total can range between AED 8,000 – AED 12,000, depending on the emirate and license type.
Step 8: Receive Your Real Estate Agent License
Once your application is reviewed and approved by the authorities, you will receive your official real estate agent license. This allows you to legally operate as a broker under a licensed brokerage.
